NO WAR, NO EMPIRE
Protest of war profiteering and union busting continued at West Oakland BART

To protect their civil rights, people went to the docks to prove they had a right to peaceful protest. They demand the authorities drop charges against protesters who, one year ago, were attacked by police as they protested the war profiteering of SSA.

At a Monday Press Conference, union and community leader, together with those injured in the April 2003 police attack at the docks, announced the release of a U.N. Commission on Human Rights letter to the United States. That letter cites the premeditated police attacks in both Oakland and New York, paid for by federal tax dollars, examples of the Bush administration's growing supporession of civil liberties.

Gwen Hardy reminded the people about the jobs that SSA ruins and how it promotes violence in Oakland. Jack Hardy spoke about Oakland police attacks on workers at the docks. Rally organizers demanded that authorities remember the people have the right to protest injustice.

Susan Galleymore read opinions of mothers about the war on Iraq Susan Galleymore read statements by mothers in the U.S. and Iraq, crying out to stop the violence, a carnage meant only to enrich the already powerful. Susan's son is serving in Iraq. This year she went to Iraq, not knowing where he was, and stayed until she found him to make sure he was alright. (See www.motherspeak.org)
