The Oakland Docks, Middle Harbor Drive

On April 7, 2003 community members protested the illegal and immoral was on Iraq by picketing the Oakland, California docks in front of shipping areas owned by two war profiteering companies, American President Lines (APL) and Stevedoring Services of America. The Oakland Police met with those companies in closed session beforehand, then came armed with full riot gear and weapons. They fired on protesters using wooden bullets, metal-shot filled bags, and concussion grenades. The injured 3 members of the media, 9 longshore workers, and 50 community members.

Community and union members met with Oakland City officials and the Police Department. The police backed off their theat to pen a second protest one mile from the site. They agreed to protect the protestors' safety.

Monday evening, May 12th, protesters returned to the docks to protest war profiteering and police brutality against the right to community picketing. These pages show what happened.
