Ann
Fagan Ginger is the Executive Director of the Meiklejohn
Civil Liberties Institute in Berkeley. Founded in 1965, MCLI
has become part of the infrastructure of the peace and justice community,
empowering people to protect and expand their rights under law.
Ann Ginger has had a distinguished career ranging from
the Civil Rights Movement to numerous teaching positions in California
universities on everything from civil rights, immigration law, human rights,
global peace studies, and the Bill of Rights. She has edited the book
that Julie discusses with her, "Undoing the Bush-Cheney Legacy:
A Toolkit for Congress & Activists," published by the Meiklejohn
Civil Liberties Institute. This book contains an extensive list and discussion
of the laws, executive and administrative orders, and signing statements
pushed through by the Bush Administration and the means to change or reverse
them.

on the Media's Treatment of African-Americans  Order DVD |

Ishmael Reed is
the author of 25 published books and 6 plays. He is a well-known novelist,
poet, playwright, essayist, and educator. Two of his books have been nominated
for National Book Awards, and a book of poetry, Conjure, was
nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. In July 2008, Da Capo Press published
Mixing It Up: Taking On the Media Bullies and Other Reflections,
a new collection of Reed's essays. He has taught English and writing
at prestigious universities, including Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, and the
University of California at Berkeley.
In these two shows, Julie asks Ishmael to comment on the treatment of African-Americans by the Media, something he has written about and experienced a great deal. In the second show, Julie concentrates her questions to Ishmael on the treatment of candidate Obama during the Presidential election. And both spar about the capability of President Obama to really make the changes he promised during his successful campaign.
