Dr. Barry Schutz
Order DVD

Julie interviews Dr. Barry Schutz, a specialist on Zimbabwe and Southern African affairs for the U.S. State Department.

Zimbabwe is suffering from an acute economic crisis. The country has the world's highest rate of inflation and just one in five has an official job. Inflation has now soared about 2,200,000%. Zimbabwe also suffers from world's highest rate of AIDS infection.

The leader, Robert Mugabe, has retained power by use of vicious tactics, conducted by a willing military against members of the opposition led by Morgan Tsvangirai. In the words on one conservative U.S. State Department official, Mugabe is worse than Sadddam.

Dr. Schutz describes the history of the development of Zimbabwe since it's liberation of colonial rule by the British when it was named Rohdesia. He charts the descent of Zimbabwe into intolerable circumstances and points out the players who could help reverse the situation.

As a bonus feature, this DVD contains news articles on the developing catastrophe.

Julie interviews Matt Heberger, a research associate with the Pacific Institute's Water Program. Matt is a licensed Professional Engineer, registered as an Environmental Engineer in Massachusetts, with a BS from Cornell and MS degree from Tufts University.

As a bonus feature, this DVD contains 2 whitepapers from Pacific Institute on preserving water, plus articles describing the drought, the California State Water Project, and possible options for the East Bay Municipal Utility District that has instituted mandatory water rationing.
